Player’s Name: Craig Biggio
Player’s Position: 2B / OF / C
Player’s Current Team: Retired (Pictured with the Houston Astros)
Price I Paid for the Card: I got this card off of eBay for $0.60.
Set it’s from: 2007 Bowman Sterling
What it’s Worth: Beckett has it listed for $10.00.
Why I like this card: I was actually at one of his first few games, you could tell right away he had that leadership presence. He was always a great hitter and could steal his share of bases. Actually that was the reason for his move to 2B. They had the opening and they wanted his speed, which would be sure to decrease if he remained a catcher. Over the course of his career, he stole 414 bases, and amassed over 3000 hits. He was one of the most popular players in Astros history and will always be remebered as a solid player by all baseball fans. He is a sure ticket Hall of Famer in 2012. Plus there is a pinstripe in the jersey (always a plus). And if that’s not enough, he has his trying really hard face on (always worth a laugh).
Why it’s a Cheap Hit:To get a card of a player like Biggio for under a buck is great, but to have that card have a piece of his home jersey (including pinstripe), makes this one a very cheap hit. You know he’s going to be a Hall of Famer, it’s just a matter of time. Until then, I sit back and keep this card. Because you know when he gets into the Hall it’s got to be worth more right? Maybe not, but at least I have a piece of a future Hall of Famer’s jersey.
Will if ever be worth more? I think so, especially when he gets into the Hall of Fame. Maybe not for long after that, but at least the year he is going to get in, it should be wroth a little more.
