Name: Ivan Rodriguez

Position: C

Team: Detroit Tigers

Age: 36

Best Season: 1999 when he won the MVP, he went 0.332/35/113/25 (possible steroid fueled season)

Set it’s from: 2007 Upper Deck SPX

How obtained: The card came as part of a lot of 8 cards.

Why this Card?: I hate owning this card. He is one of those posers, that you knew he was on steroids and he never honed up to it and never will.  Don’t give me any crap about how natural a swing he has. Or how he was doing it before he met Canseco.  Look at his stats. Before he mat Jose can you see, he never hit more than 15 homers, after he met Canseco he turned into a home run machine.  He may have only done it for one season, or 3 it doesn’t matter, he did it.  If the card didn’t come from a lot of cards, I would never have gotten it.  Do I feel the same way about all the other steroid users?  Hell yes I do. About the only two I don’t harbor any bad feelings for are Canseco, Petitte and Giambi because at least they admitted it

But What About the Set?: These were among the fist game used cards I ever got.  I don’t think Upper Deck could have made an uglier card if they tried.  I have easily 15 of these cards and each one makes me vomit.  Why can’t Upper Deck Make these cards sexier.  Even the current cards from this year’s set are hideous. For $150 a box you figure they would do something better, but then again, why should they even try?  It’s not like people are going to stop buying it again.

Beckett’s Value: $8.00

eBay Value: I got it for about $0.80.

Will it ever be worth more?: I don’t know, I guess if he gets into the Hall it might be, but who knows.  Most cards, never increase in value after the season is over.  I doubt though that this card will go up in value.
