This season there have been quite a few cycles hit, 8 to be exact and last night was the eighth.  Earlier today I wrote about someone hitting four homers in a game, and I’m sure next week I will write about someone hitting 3 homers or hitting for the cycle again.  But for today, let’s focus on Eric Fryer.  Eric, playing for the West Virginia Power in the SAL (low A) hit for the cycle against the Hickory Crawdads.  What’s interesting is the night before his teammate Caleb Gindl missed the cycle by a double (he had two singles, a triple, and a homer).

On the season Eric is hitting 0.345/9/55/13 in his first full season as a pro.  He was selected in the 2007 draft in the 10th round by the Milwaukee Brewers out of Ohio State University.  As far as where he fits in the organization, he is a catcher, so with Jason Kendell in the majors (not the long term solution at catcher) and a handful of other prospects, I would put him as about 5th on the Brewers depth chart at catcher.  A number that could change fast if he continues hitting well in the minors. He should see himself in high A next season, with a shot at the pros in 2010 or early 2011.

Right now Eric has his Helena Brewers team Best card out.  Look for him in the Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects later this year, along with a chance to get his autograph.
