Roughs on the Diamond – Bryan Petersen

I know sometimes, on this blog I come off as a Marlin fan, showcasing a lot of their up and coming talent.  The truth is, that they have one of the most stocked minor leagues in the majors.  The Greensboro Grasshoppers is a great example of the talent they have.  Starting with hitting phenoms Mike Stanton 0.287/36/90, Matt Dominguez 0.292/16/64, Hunter Mense 0.293/13/55, and the player I want to talk about Bryan Petersen 0.293/23/80/23.

Yep that’s right a true 5 tool player.  Petersen was drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 mlb draft that yielded Dominguez, Stanton and Petersen in the first 4 rounds. He played his college ball at UC Irvine and put up some heady numbers there. Last year, his first professional season, he played for the Jamestown Jammers of the short season NY – Penn League.  He went 0.250/5/24/11 in just 214 at bats.  This year he has played at three different levels.  First with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, where he went 0.301/19/58/15, he was then moved to the Carolina Mudcats of AA Souther league, where he adjusted very well and went 0.351/1/10/1.  He was then shifted back down to the Jupiter Hammerheads of the advanced A Florida State League, where he is now and is batting 0.265/3/12/7.

I feel as though the time is right for him.  I envision him moving through the system fairly quickly at this point.  Next season he should be at Carolina (AA) with a shot at Albuquerque (AAA), by the end of the season.  With opening day 2010 a possibility.  Envision Stanton and Petersen in the OF and Dominguez manning 3rd by 2011.  He actually doesn’t have any autographed cards in the market right now, but that will change with Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects this year as well as Tri Star and Razor products.

  1. I probalby saw this guy play three times last year, although I do not remember him. I was at the super-regional in Wichita, KS where UCI swept the Shockers. I then saw UCI play their debut in Omaha. I can’t even remember who it was against. OSU??
