Why this Card?: As many of you know, I love collecting autographs and game used cards. More so autographs though and lately, I have been sending out cards through the mail to obtain these hard to find players. Pretston was drafted by the Dodgers in 2006, 31st overall in the 1st compensation round. He had a stellar career in high school, plus the fact his dad was Don Mattingly helped a lot too. Unfortunately in the past 2 years, he has had some family turmoil, which may have led to several sub par seasons. The truth is that if this was anyone other than Mattingly’s kid, he would have been moved by now. In 2006 in the GCL he went 0.290/1/29/12, in 2007 he moved up to A Great Lakes Loons, where he hit 0.210/3/40/11. Finally this season (again with the Great Lakes Loons) he went 0.224/6/24/11. At this point the Dodgers have to decide, does he get another year of A ball or send him to A+? Clearly he is having trouble hitting A ball, but they are hoping that working with his dad in the off season (roving hitting instructor for the Dodgers) might help him. Another sub par year though and his career may be done.
But What About the Set?: This is actually not part of any set. The guys over at The Autograph Card store have an eBay store, where they sell cards of minor leaguers autographs. Feel free to check them out, they have a lot of cards of players that don’t even have autographed cards out yet. Their prices are cheap and shipping is $3 for all cards bought at the same time.
Beckett’s Value: NA
eBay Value: I got it for $2.99.
