The Bowie Bay Sox have a lot of talent on their team. Thress guys hit 20 or more homers, one guy won the batting Triple Crown (even after missing a month because of a call up to the bigs). Their catcher is the top prospect in minor league ball right now. They have 4 pitchers who have won 10 or more games, 4 pitchers with 100 or more strike outs, and a closer with over 30 saves. In short the team is stacked. The Baltimore Orioles should be happy they have some serious talent headed to the bigs very soon.
To cap off this amazing season Nolan Reimold had the best hitting game of his career during the second game of the Eastern League playoffs. He slugged three home runs and single handedly outscored the Matt LaPorta led Akron Aeros. Nolan’s name has not been synonymous with top minor league talent, but after the season he just had (0.284/25/84/7) that might all change. It should be noted that this is not a fluke. Looking back on his past performance and his age (24) it made sense for him to make the leap this year.
He was the 61st player selected in the June 2005 MLB draft (2nd round) by the Baltimore Orioles. He started off his career in Aberdeen (SS – A) and Frederick (low A) where he hit a combined 0.285/15/41/5. The Orioles then kept him at Frederick for a full season in 2006 where he went 0.255/19/75/14. The next season he was promoted to Bowie, but ran into some injury trouble and split time down in the GCL, he hit a combined 0.296/11/42/2. This season he spent the entire year at Bowie, where he had a breakout season statistically. Next year there is not reason why he can’t compete for a starting job in Baltimore and at the very least end up in AAA waiting for an opportunity.
He has a few autographs on eBay and they are running between $4 – $10, depending on what you are looking for. There are also several multi – autograph cards of his as well going for between $10-$25 depending on who else signed the cards. Since Baltimore is very bad at the pro level, look for them to give him a shot. We could be looking at another Nick Markakis in the making. Definitely worth a flier in my opinion. Below are some of the autographed cards available. The one on the left is available through The Autograph Card Store’s eBay store for a Buy it Now price of $4.99.
