Name: Nomar Garciaparra

Position:1B / SS / 3B

Team: Los Angeles Dodgers

Age: 34 years old

Best Season: 1998 he went 0.323/35/122/12 and was 2nd in MVP voting behind Juan Gonzalez.

Set it’s from: 2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot

How obtained: Target $10 repackaged pack.

Why this Card?: I love those $10 guaranteed autogamer packs from Target. Unfortunately I’ve gotten two of these and now I am afraid I’m going to find a third if I buy another.  Truthfully though I like this card.  It’s visually nice, not to mention I like the player.  There was a brief time that I thought of the three outstanding American League short stops of the late 90s, he was second to Arod, with Jeter a distant 3rd.  Then the injuries came and he became very ineffective, so the Sox traded him.  He has since found a home in LA with the Dodgers, and although he isn’t even close to how he was statistically, he is still a damn good hitter.  It’s cool to get a card of him in his Red Sox uniform, since his best years were spent there.  Definitely a must have player game uniform in my mind.

But What About the Set?: 2003 Sweet Spot is expensive, running about $140 for a tin.  You get 4 cards per pack and 12 packs per box and are guaranteed 2 numbered rookies, 1 rookie patch card, 2 embroidered patch cards, and either a Sweet Spot Autograph or Sweet Swatch jersey card.  This card would be your Sweet Spot jersey card, meaning no Sweet Spot Autograph. That my friends would be terrible, to lay out that kind of money and not get the signature card.

Beckett’s Value: $8.00

eBay Value: A quick search says $1.00

Ahhh…..Nomar. Much like yourself, I was of the opinion that Normar was just behind A-Rod is overall greatness. The day he was traded to the Cubs was one of the happiest days of my Cub life. Then he got hurt…and hurt again. Ugh! If he had remained healthy, he would have been up there with the best in the bigs.

How funny! I just bought one of those packs Saturday night at Target and I got the same Nomar card as well.

That is too funny. My girlfriend pulled the same card from a repackaged box from Target. It was a $15 box that included a graded card (of no one of importance) and a game used card of a star (NOMAHH!) There was an unopened pack included, she pulled a Phil Hughes from a package of 07 Ultra Fleer which in my opinion was the only bright spot of the box. Oh and a set of Kmart Stars or something from 1989 or 1990? She commented at how hideous the Astro’s uniforms were.
