Player: Robin Yount
Set: 1975 Topps
Card Number: 223
Why is This Card a Must Have?: This is one of those cards that I think you might have forgotten about. I was always a big Yount fan. So I have this card, got it when I was in my teens. I think it ran me about $20. Of course now a days it won’t cost that much. So here’s the question, if he didn’t have the 3000 hits, maybe he fell short say 2800, does he still get in? I think the 2 MVPs say yes. Definitely not on the same level as someone like George Brett, he unlike Brett was an accumulator. There are two types of players who make it into the Hall. Ones who dominate (Ruth, Aaron, Mantle, Stargell, ect…) and then your accumulators. Accumulators are the guys that play for a long time and were very good for a long time. Guys like Yount, Molitor, Biggio (when he gets in), Boggs, Ripken, ect…I am not putting down these guys but for the most part, there cards are just not worth what the dominant Hall of Famers cards are worth. Did he deserve to get in? Absolutely, 3000 hits and you should automatically get in (and you do). I’m just saying that if someone offered me a good condition Brett rookie or a mint condition Brett card, I would take the Brett card.
On a Scale of 1 to 10, How Must Have Is This Card?: A 7, the reason for the low rating is that even though he is in the Hall of Fame, he is an accumulator and as such his card can’t be more than a 7. I do love the cheese factor of the card though, horrible colors and the most boring background ever. You can get this card for around $7 on eBay.

Back in the ’80s, you could get $50 for that card. Why do all of the ’75 Yount have that water-stained looking streak going down the left side of the card? Mine has the same thing, and so do a bunch of others I’ve seen. It’s not a water-stain, but not sure what it is.
