Name: Brad Hawpe

Position: OF

Team: Colorado Rockies

Age: 29 years old

Best Season: 2007 he went 0.291/29/116 and finished 24th in NL MVP voting.

Set it’s from: 2008 Allen and Ginter’s

How obtained: eBay auction

Why this Card?: Actually this is part of a bunch of A & G game used I bought in a big lot.  With an average price of 50 cents a card how could I go wrong.  I like Hawpe though.  He is one of those fly under the radar guys.  Guys that are good for 0.290/25/90 every year, they keep their mouths shut and just perform.  They don’t get a whole lot of fanfare but, you know he’s a big cog in the winning engine.  Hawpe was a super prospect in 2004 when he came up from ripping up the minor leagues.  He’s settled into a very good player that should have many good years ahead of him.  He is very inexpensive on the secondary market both in game used and autographs, which is a shame since he is such a selfless player.  Next year look for him to put up another year like this one, he’s always going to strike out a lot (not as much as Mark Reynolds).  But with his average and power, you can live with it.

But What About the Set?: 2008 A & G is one of the retro sets that I like.  I think at this point though the set has been done and it’s time to rape a new vintage set.  Boxes of this set run about $80 and you are guaranteed 2 autographs or relics per box. I’m thinking it’s a rip off but that’s just me.

Beckett’s Value: $8.00

eBay Value: I got it for $0.50
