Set it’s from: 2007 Tri Star Signa Cuts

How obtained: eBay auction

Why this Card?: When I first got back into collecting and I learned about the autograph card, one of the first players could remember actually wanting to get was Nails.  I’m not sure why, he was never really a truly great player, not really a power hitter or a hit for average guy, but he always had that look of a blue collar worker when it came to playing the field.  In 1986 he was the hottest thing in baseball.  I remember my friend Frank and I waiting in line for his autograph.  I didn’t have the money for it but Frank was a die hard fan of his.  He said once he got up there for the autograph he just blew him off.  So I started to try and get his auto through the mail, but never had any level of success.  Then when I came across this lot, I had to get this card.  He only hit more than 9 homers twice in his career, and only stole more than 30 bases three times in his relatively short career (12 years).  I think it was his rough style of play that that made me a pseudo fan.  The one issue though, that I had with his card are the pen marks on the right and left side of the sticker.  How bad is it that Tri Star couldn’t just cut those off.  Then think of those cards where the signature gets cut off.  Just bad quality control here.

But What About the Set?: 2007 Tri Star Signa Cuts boxes run about a 100 bucks. They contain 4 packs with one cut signature per pack. Not a bad deal, but you know these signatures are not going to be worth 25 bucks a pop. The set is just autographs, there is no base set, just a set of players.

Beckett’s Value: $12.00

eBay Value: I got it for $2.00
