Player: Bo Jackson

Set: 1986 Topps Traded and Donruss The Rookies

Card Number: 50 and 38 respectively

Why is These Cards are Must Have?: Here is another one of those guys that no matter where he was playing if you had a chance to watch him play you plunked down money for the ticket.  He didn’t have the average, but his home runs sure were fun to watch, combine that with the amazing speed from a person of his size and you had one heck of a ballplayer.  For four years (19-87-1990), he was an elite hitter.  Maybe his stats don’t say so, but everytime he got up to bat, you knew he could do something special.  His biggest downfall were his injuries.  He almost never played over 120 games (except one year where he played 135).  His need to fill his ego took over and he to the NFL where for a very brief time he dominated there as well.  I think it was that decission which ended up ruining what was a very good career in baseball.  If he didn’t mess up his hip, he would have played for years.  Not a Hall of Fame guy, but definitely a Hall of Very Good guy.  The main reason I think he should be on this list is simply because he did what no other player had ever done, dominate in two professional sports at the same time.  Even if it was brief, he deserves to be on this list.

On a Scale of 1 to 10, How Must Have Are These Cards?: A 4, Bo will always be a hot name in baseball card collecting, and these are by far some of his best cards to own. You can find these card for around a $1 – $2 on eBay (more for graded and Topps Tiffany Traded which could run you up to $15).
