Player: David Cone
Set: 1987 Donruss
Card Number: 502 respectively
Why is This Card is a Must Have?: This year David is up for election into the Hall of Fame. Although he is 194 – 126, which gives him a 0.606 winning percentage, I just don’t think he has enough in the stat department to get him enshrined. Despite not getting to 200 wins, I think he deserves to be in the Hall. Obviously he won’t get there by way of the writers. It’s going to take the Veterans Committee to get him in. The thing about David is that he was such an intimidating presence on the mound. As a Yankee fan, I knew every 5th game when he went out to pitch, there was a good shot of them winning that game. In my opinion he had the decade of dominance. His record may not imply that but his stuff was so good for so long. He is definitely one of the most unappreciated pitchers in baseball history. Maybe it was because he spent the majority of his career with the New York ball clubs, which builds a certain amount of animosity. He does he a Cy Young Award and 4 other top 6 finishes. He was a 5 time All Star,so obviously his peers felt he was pretty good.
On a Scale of 1 to 10, How Must Have Are These Cards?: A 5, this rating is probably high, mainly because he is one of my All Time favorite pitchers. Still I consider it a must have card since it is his XRC You can find these card for no more than $1 on eBay.
