Player Name: Mo Vaughn

Card Sets: 1990 Bowman, and Score

Card Numbers: 275 and 675 respectively

Why are these cards must have?: When he left the Red Sox for “Greener” pastures of the Angels, I thought to myself, he is going to the Hall of Fame. I mean the guy had a MVP, 2 40+ home runs seasons, 4 100+ RBI seasons. He was almost halfway to 500 homers and he was only 30 years old. Then that fateful day in 1999 while trying to field a foul ball, he fell into the dugout and tweaked his knee. Although he recovered and did fairly well his two years in Anaheim, his knee was deteriorating to the point where he had to take off the entire 2001 season to rehab it. He came back in 2002 after being traded to the Mets for Kevin Appier, had a fairly productive season, towards the end of the season through the winter, not only were his knees failing him, but also his weight. It was 2004 that would end up being his last season in the pros. He finished with the MVP, 3 All Star selections and one Silver Slugger. He is eligible for the Hall of Fame this year, but with 328 homers and only 1620 hits, he isn’t getting in. It just goes to show you how hard it is to become a Hall of Fame player.

Scale of 1 – 10, how must have are these cards: 5, of all the players that played in that generation, he was the one I was so sure was going to the Hall of Fame, it was frustrating to watch the wheels fall off so quickly. The cards run anywhere from $1 – $2 depending on which manufacturer and whether or not it’s graded.
