Player Name: Troy Percival
Sets From: 1992 Bowman
Card Numbers: 290
Why is this card a must have?: I think this is one thing Bowman should bring back. The casual shot. Or maybe you could have the player doing something that pertains to his hobby. Just think about it, if they were around for Bo Jackson and Will Clark you could see them hunting. For Michael Vick . . . well you get my point. I have to say that between this card and Todd Jones’s <link>, Jonsie wins for outrageous outfit, but Troy has on the non collared polo shirt, totally casual! A quick look at Troy’s resume shows 4 All Star appearances, 352 career saves (and counting), a career 3.12 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. He was as close to automatic as it came in Anaheim for a good 9 years. Although this card is from the 1992 season he actually didn’t crack the majors until 1995. Of course I guess that’s why we loved Bowman. Tomorrow’s Stars today, I think was and still is their motto.
Scale of 1 – 10, how must have are these cards: 7, Troy will never get into the Hall of Fame, but he will be remembered as one of the era’s premiere closers. The card books for $3, but on eBay none of his cards are going for more than $1 and even that is too much. Still it’s a must have card for anyone who watched baseball in the 90s.
