Player Name: Shawn Green

Sets From: 1992 Topps , Stadium Club Dome,  and Upper Deck

Card Numbers: 276, 67, and 55

Why is these cards are must have?: It’s hard to write this without taking into account the steroid issue.  I decided from now on to omit that from the discussion. So now let’s look at Shawn’s career, 0.283/328/1070/162 SB.  Not bad, he put up 4 35+ home run seasons and 4 20+ stolen bases.  There was a point when he was a 2nd round fantasy pick and dniidn’t disappoint.  There was also a time when his religious beliefs would have kept him out of a critical game, and it really mattered and was beaten to death in the media.  Overall he was one of the better hitters of the turn of the century and for years kept the Blue Jays relevant. My gut does tell me he used steroids, but like I said I’m trying not to judge players like that since they weren’t banned from baseball when he was probably taking them.

Scale of 1 – 10, how must have are these cards: 4, I wanted to give him a 5, but I just can’t since he was just below what I can the average best player.  His career fizzled to fast in the end.  His cards go for about $1.50 in the book, but on eBay I have seen them run around a $1.  I do dig the photoshopped Topps card where they removed his hat’s insignia.

Hey first time checking out the site…had to comment on the Shawn Green fantasy status. I’ll never forget the first year he started trending down with the Dodgers. I figured he’d be a bounce back guy, but it never really happened. Like you said he was a second round guy – even first round worthy for a year or two.

In terms of the cards I always liked the colors in Stadium Club, although they don’t compare to the originality of Topps.
