I can’t stop myself and this guy needs to be brought back down to earth $1.25 a card are you serious?

Baseball cards (842) from 1981-1988 – $525

Listing is for 842 cards from my personal collection of Topps, Donruss, Fleer, and Score baseball cards from 1981-1988 for only $525.00

90% of cards are in mint condition; 5% are very good to excellent; 5% are good condition

All cards have been stored alphabetically in individual plastic sleeves like the pictures show in 2 binders.

Cards include names like Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Jose Conseco, and Roger Clemens and have 2 identical cards of some players.

Card collection breaks down like this:

1981: 38 Donruss
1984: 14 Topps
1985: 14 Fleer
1986: 65 Topps – 8 Donruss
1987 294 Topps – 165 Fleer – 2 Score – 2 Donruss
1988: 134 Score – 63 Donruss – 43 Fleer

Notable card series: Have 42 of 44 Fleer 1987 Limited Edition Record Setters and 41 of 44 Fleer 1988 Limited Edition Record Setters

Entire spreadsheet of cards broken down by card type and year is available by request.

*** Will not sell cards separately….only as a collection ***

According to my research, price to purchase each card separately is about $1.25 a card + shipping.

My price comes to about 62 cents a card…a tremendous value for someone wanting to get these cards professionally graded to increase their worth by as much as 10 times for some cards!

Pickup would be in the Silvercreek area of Manvel, right behind Silverlake of Pearland.

Would consider shipping to you if paid in full first by Paypal.

Thanks for looking!

My First Take: Total tool, 842 cards from the 80s and the majority are from the “Bad Wax” years. Are you kidding me with this $1.25 a card?  I mean don’t get me wrong there are a lot of cards from those sets that are “worth” a buck but really most are worthless. Again the penny a card value is in effect so my final bid should be $8.42, but I’m feeling generous and I’m gonna offer $20.  The limited edition cards he is talking about was sold at Woolworth and they are worthless, like completely worthless. I’m sure he has the Bonds rookie and Bo Jackson, ect. But really $20 is generous for this.  I’m gonna blindside him.

Emails

Me: Hi, I’m interested are they still available? I am trying to start a collection for my son and it looks like this might be a fun start.

Craigslist Idiot (CI): They are.  Would you like me to send you the Excel spreadsheet listing every card?  (Wow really, now this should be a lot of fun, I’ll sum up the spreadsheet).

Me: Wow! Yeah if you could sent the spreadsheet that would be incredible.

CI: The cards are listed in alphabetical order by “brand” (Donruss, Fleer, etc.) and list the year and card# as well.  Duplicates are designated by light green highlights. After you look through them, let me know if you’re still interested. (if you want the spreadsheet email me, I’ll keep it for a few days, basically it’s lots of crap.  The best cards are 3 Bonds rookies, a Donruss McGwire rookie, and a Maddux rookie, total bull crap).

Me: My wife, son and I went through the price guide and we are scratching our heads trying to figure out why you listed it as much as you have. There seems to be about $40 worth of cards there.

CI: I don’t know what price guide you were looking at, but I’ve seen some of these cards go for as much as a hundred dollars.  I can assure you the cards are worth at least double what I’m asking for it.

Me: I don’t mean to call you ignorant, but have you priced these cards on eBay, we priced out some of the better ones and total we are looking at about $20.  I can offer you $20 and assure you that the cards will be well looked after.

CI: How dare you call me ignorant, if you don’t like the deal why are you still trying to negotiate when you know I won’t sell it that low.  Your offer is an insult.

Me: Your ad is ridiculous and you should be embarrassed by asking as much as you are.  For further reference you can learn more about pricing cards from this era by watching this video: http://voiceofthecollector.blogspot.com/2008/10/long-awaited-junk-wax-how-to.html it is the one that helped us determine how much your cards are really worth.

End of emails

My Final Take: Clueless idiots like this should be ashamed of themselves for ripping off people.  Even though I called him out on it he still continued to assure me the cards are worth more.  As you know it’s all total crap, I am trying to educate these people one person at a time.  I didn’t even fell like an A-Hole on this one, I really felt like this was a total con on his end, he got what he deserved.  I’m curious how long they spend watching the video before they get so infuriated that they were taken.

It really did sound like a con. The worst part is the majority of his cards were from 87 and 88. That’s a really big slap in the face to ask that much. And that 1981 – 1988 is completely misleading. Maybe 1981, 1984-1988. Because 82 and 83 Topps could actually yield interesting cards. And that stupid some of these cards are going for a hundred dollars, perhaps if they’re graded and people are stupid. Also I found a box of 1987 Topps rack packs (1152 total cards) for $25 on eBay and that shoots out the majority of his collection. I’d like to know where he gets the other $500 from. People just don’t check the market before they sell these things. When you sell your cards, you’re competing against the world of eBay and if you’re really desperate to sell you have to make an appealing price.

Wow… just wow. He’s a douche bag that deserves to have very bad things happen to him.

  3. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’m enjoying this new feature. I can read these posts every day. This will never get old.

This is great. You should send them all a final email that links to your post about them. Then they could read what you thought about them and what all of the commenters thought. Then they MIGHT start getting the hint.

I need to go out there and find me some of those ’87 Score!
