Player Name: Jacque Jones
Sets From: 1997 Bowman and Bowman Chrome
Card Numbers: 329 and 225
Why are these cards a must have?: Jacque is a total head scratcher. I mean before 2007 he was a 0.280/25/80 guy, then the second year of his Cubs contract came up and he completely tanked. Most of it is due to injury but he put up 0.285/5/66 in 435 at bats. Then last year was a complete wash, he barely got over 100 at bats and only 1 homer to show for it. This year he finds himself on the Reds, fighting for his career. It blows me away how someone with so much talent could fall appart so quickly. No mid season or post season awards for him, but asone of the most consistent players of the last decade, I thought he needed to be on this list. His career numbers are 0.277/165/630 with 1272 hits. Not even close to HOF numbers, but like I said before 2 years ago, he was an etremely consistant hitter.
On a scale of 1 – 10, how must have are these cards: 4, when it’s all said and done he is a 4. Great hitter on some good teams but never great teams. In the book they run about $4, on eBay you can find it for around a dollar. Not a bad card to have, and getting it now while he is at the end of his career (I hope not but it seems that way), might be a shrewd move.
On a side note I am bringing this back as a feature, I was not going to until the packs were done opening, but I missed writing these.
