Player Name: Francisco Rodriguez

Sets From: 2000  Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Bowman’s Best, Topps Traded. Topps Chrome Traded.

Why are these cards a must have?: K-Rod put up an incredible season last year.  Too bad it didn’t effect his prices too much.  Last year he saved a record 62 games, it wasn’t a fluke, he is a great closer.  Is he as good as Mariano (Mo), no way, but he is good.  I remember when he first came up and he had a situation that was very similar to Mo.  A setup guy who was a closer in waiting.  The difference is, he’s a complete power pitcher, and although Mo is too, Mo can be a finesse pitcher at times as well, which is why at 39, he is still a monster closer.  They say K-Rod has lost some speed, and while that might be true, it might force him to update his repertoire. His has 211 career saves, an ERA of 2.32 and a WHIP of 1.11, just outstanding!  He may very well finish his career with more saves than anyone if he can keep his arm intact.  As far as Hall of Fame goes, it’s way too early in his career right now, but if he finishes his career in the top 5 in saves all time, it would be tough to keep him out.  His accolades include three All Star selections, 2 Rolaids Relief awards, 3 top 5 Cy Young finishes, and one MVP finish.  Right now one of the game’s most elite closers.

On a scale of 1 – 10, how must have are these cards: 6, his cards are a steal, I don’t care what you think anyone who’s of K-Rod’s talent, should have $10+ cards across the board. In the book they run about $2 – $10 on eBay you can find it for around $1 – $3. My favorite is the Bowman’s Best, there is also an autographed version of the Topps Traded card which will run you close to $40.
