I decided to have some fun for this giveaway. Everyone is invited to play, but you have to guess who is on the card to win. Everyone who correctly guesses gets a chance to be in the drawing for the refractor reprint card. Plus of course you get a pack of bad wax on top of it! Here are the 5 clues to who it is:
- Played on one team his entire career.
- He has multiple MVPs and multiple World Series rings.
- He is in the Hall of Fame.
- He was no longer playing as of the 1980 season.
- In his career he was an All Star selection almost every year except he wasn’t selected for two years.
Who is it? I’ll tell you one thing this is one beautiful card and it books for around $15. Leave your guess in the comment section and the winner will be chosen Monday night at 9pm. At that time I will also put up a scan of this great card.

Hmmm… Mickey Mantle?
Mickey Mantle!
I’m going to guess Stan Musial.
Yogi
I’d have to go with Stan Musial. He’s the only multi-MVP multi-WS winner I could find that missed being an All-Star twice (1941,1942).
Mickey Mantle
boom
brooks robinson
Sounds like Stan “the Man” Musial to me…Of course, I’ve been wrong before.
I came up with two who fit: Stan Musial and Mickey Mantle
Gotta pick one.
Then I’ll go with Musial
let’s see… Hank Aaron fits, except for the multiple World Series wins. It could be Brooks Robinson, except for he missed the All star game several times. Willie Stargell? But again, the All Star games get him. Johnny Bench fits, but he played until ’83.
Going back aways… Mantle, of course, but again the All Star gets him. Clemente? Same thing.
So… I’ll have to go with Stan Musial.
Great contest! Thanks!
Easy, it Mickey Mantle!!!
I’m going to go with Mickey Mantle
Stan Musial. I was just reading about him today in Fay Vincent’s book, The Last Commissioner.
Wait, there’s a blog entry. Thanks.
I think A.J has it right. It’s Brooks Robinson.
I believe its Stan Musial.
Stan Musial.
It’s Stan Musial (or it could also be Mantle, but Musial is my guess.)
Another guy who almost fits but not quite is Thurman Munson. He was only MVP once plus he had 2 partial seasons, including the year in which he died, that he didn’t make the all-star team.
Incidentally, Brooks Robinson won only 1 MVP, unless you also count the World Series MVP he won.
The clues are a bit deceptive, though, since saying “as of 1980″ definitely means that 1979 was his last season playing. That’s was put me onto Munson.
Hate to burst your bubble but Munson was not selected 3 all star games. All I can say is there are people who have it right. Just pick one and stick to your guns.
Stan Musial. At least I think so
I’m going Musial also.
It’s gotta be Mickey Mantle.
Mickey Mantle
Mickey Mantle…Thanks!!!
I will also go with Stan the Man Musial
My guess is Roy Campanella. Since the car accident ended his career before the 1958 season, he obviously didn’t play in the 1959 World Series. But Duke Snider, Peewee Reese, Gil Hodges, Jim Gilliam, etc. saw to it that Campanella was presented a World Championship ring.

Little late but……Micky Mantle!!
Stan Musial.

Mickey Mantle
Stan Musial!

Stan Musial was my guess before reading the comments. After reading them I think I will stick with it.
My guess is Bizarro Ken Caminiti.
stan “the man” musial
From the clues it sounds like Stan Musial. 3 WS rings. Only missed the All-Star in 41, 42 and 3 MVP’s. All for the Cards.
I am going to guess Mickey Mantle

Stan Musial
I’ve got to go with Stan the Man, first two years he wasn’t selected to the all-star game and he played only with St.Louis and won multiple MVP’s.
He wasn’t selected for a third all star game in 1945 as well due to the draft.
Mickey Mantle

I’ll go with Mantle and Musial see below both fit the puzzle:
Mantle Yankees 51-68
3X MVP & 7X World Series Champ/Rings
HOF 1974
Last Played 1968
Not an All-Star 1951 & 1966
Musial Cardinals 41-44, 46-63
3X MVP & 3X world Series Champ/Rings
HOF 1969
Last Played 1963
not All-Star in 41 & 42
Dion you have to pick just one.

$15 “value” leads me to believe it’s gotta be Musial. Count me in!
Stan Musial
Definitely Mickey Mantle, Topps Finest 1996. Which one though…hmmm, can’t wait to see it!
Stan the Man… Gotta be.

Has to be Campanella — received second WS ring after death. Thanks, Nate Cihlar
I’m going to say Stan Musial because I’m a trendsetter. That and I somehow have have about 20 of his 1988 Donruss Puzzle cards.
