Why this Card?: It’s no secret that I am a Kubel fan. I started collecting autographs of him last year, so it was just a natural progression to start getting patches of him as well. Why not start out with one of his best patches, from one of the best autogamer sets. So far this year Kubel is demonstrating that his numbers from last year were no fluke. He is a full time major leaguer now and one who can put up some nice numbers each season.
But What About the Set?: 2006 Upper Deck Ultimate boxes run about $240 on eBay. They contain 5 packs with 4 cards per pack. You get at least one rookie autographed card, one multimple autographed card (up to 8 signatures), one multimple memorabilia card (up to 4 pieces of memorabilia), and one multiple patch card (up to four patches) per box. On a level of dollars per hit, you’re looking at $60 a pop, very much on the high side, but some of the signature cards are fantastic.
