Coming Up With A New Card . . . Help Please!

I was going to start writing more about the guys that were amazing as amateur athletes, but never made it in the pros.  I was going to cover the four main sports, maybe do two a week.  This would become a set, hopefully close to a hundred cards.  I hate calling these guys first round flops.  Because although they did flop in the pros, they were amazing athletes at a lower level and instead of focusing on what they didn’t accomplish, I want to focus on what they did when they were great.  Hopefully even get a few of these signed.  Here is what I am starting with.  I wanted an A&G feel to it, so I took a photo and fuzzed the edges, then I did a slight cartoon filter on the photo to give it a painted effect.  I love the result, what I don’t love is everything around it.  So this is where your help comes in.  Please help me jazz it up a bit.  Here’s what I have:

AA Darius Heyward Bey

First off I need to come up with a new heading because Amazing Amateurs could be considered a porn title.  I’d like not to frame the picture, but if it helps I would.  Any help would be appreciated.  Changed to Campus Legends and changed up the bottom font.  I think this is a winner!  Very elegant, nice for a signature, simple and clean.

What happened to the Tristar and BAP reviews? This blog really has lost something. It just seems to be about custom cards now (which just some like all of those unlicensed, “fake” cards that came out in the early 90s). Where are the recurring posts on diamonds in the rough, pack reviews, etc?

David they are all coming back I promise. I wanted to do some custom cards, then restart all of the segments, this time with nice custom cards along with it so if anyone wanted to have something to send for a TTM autograph, they will have it. Within the next week, I will set up a schedule and get this blog back in the direction it was in.

Good looking card. You’re right, I’d leave them unframed.

Title? Hmmm. Collegiate Greats? Scholarship Studs? Higher Learning Highlights? I don’t know.

The “Amazing Amateurs” script is nice, but I’d suggest changing up the bottom script, at least for the name. It would break it up some. Currently it looks like a wedding invitation.

dafont.com has some a nice variety of fonts to work with. My wife digitally scrapbooks so she has downloaded a mess of them.

I would leave the bottom text in the first one. Take the top text and the name from the second one and make it a little bolder and it looks good. I like the elegant text in the first one. It give it more of a classy look to it.

I like the Campus Legends title…these look nice and clean and would be nice with a signature.

I like the Campus Legends title, but maybe a different font. I know that it is just a typo but ‘University’ is spelled incorrectly.

pretty harsh calling Bey a flop….he hasn’t even signed a contract yet. not the best way to get on the raider nation’s good side.

I’m not calling him a flop . . .yet. I just don’t see him as an impact receiver. But hey he was pretty great to watch in college. I’m from ACC nation and got to see him make some spectacular catches. He does take plays off though, and you can do that to an extent in college, but not in the pros.
