I have been waiting to write this one for a while since I am a Yankee fan. I didn’t like this pick initially. The one thing I was hoping for was for some quality pitching or a quality infielder. Since the pitching ranks were severly depleted and the infielders that were first round quality were taken, I guess they changed their draft perspective to outfielders. I thought Brett Jackson or Kentrail Davis would have been better picks right here, but Heathcott is one of the best all around outfielders in the draft and I can’t be too upset about this pick. The only knock on Slade is his off the field issues, both parents have been out of the picture for a few years now and he is known to be hot headed. Hopefully he can work through that while coming up through the minors.

If you know Slade or have ever seen him play, let us know what you think his prospects are in the minor / major leagues by leaving a comment.

Oh he is one hell of a player and I know this because Slade Heathcott is my brotherim younger than him but he is a amazing player
I have read a lot of the issues surrounding slade and its amazing how garbage is written that there is nothing to it. Slade has worked hard to get to where he is at. He has worked for me one summer and he had a lawn mowing service the last two years of high school. His mother has never left his side and has supported him. You could not find a mother more devoted to her children than her. She has never touched a drug in life and is guilty by association but she know longer has that in life. Some time parents have do what they have to survive and she has moved on. I told slade the other day that he has the ability and talent to be one of the great players in the game. He will always give 200% and I know this because I am probably one of the proudest grandpas in the country and have watched him grow from a little boy into a man.
I have been impressed with Slade since he was a child athlete. He won almost every event in the Little Olympics and was a good little league player in Pryor, Oklahoma. I know his parents have had some difficulties but his mother has always tried to be a good parent and supportive of her children. Slade, Zane, and their mother Kim, should not be subjected to the outrageous things that have been said on many of the blogs and other sites. It is a shame it is easier to write rumors or plain crap rather than actually do some journalism and find out the facts.
I haven’t seen they boys since they moved back to Louisiana but I have followed their activities and was very proud of Slade in his high school successes. I was astonished when Slade was drafted by the Yankees out of high school. I knew he would have a great college career but you have to take opportunities when they come your way. I am very proud of Slade, as well as his brother Zane, and I wish him great success in his baseball career. I am also happy that Kim has found a better place and wish her all the best. I am Slade’s great uncle and an avid baseball fan. I will follow his career closely and I hope he has good managers and coaches that help him keep on track and play to his potential.
