This one I am proud to write because like my Diamond on the Rough I am also a University of Arizona alumn. If you haven’t heard of Jon yet, don’t worry you aren’t alone. He was drafted in the 7th round by the Houston Astros last year after hitting 0.312/14/39/16 on a very underachieving Wildcat team. He has all the tools to become a very effective major leaguer. He has speed, power, and like many minor leaguers, he has to cut down on the strikeouts.
So far this season he is leading the minors in home runs with 28 through yesterday. His stat line is a very impressive 0.302.28/76/12 for high A Lancaster. He definitely deserves a promotion to AA and should start the season in AA next season. Like I said, he needs to cut down on the strikeouts, but he is on his way to the majors. He is probably two years away, but he will get to Houston and when he does, he should become a legitimate 20 home run 20 stolen base guy.
I came up with a card design for you to send out to get a through the mail autograph. Since there aren’t many of his cards out there, with the exception of a California League All Star card, I have generated one for all my faithful readers.

Just got back from vacation and saw a Corpus Christi Hooks game the Double AA club of the Astros. Wish this kid (Jon Gaston) had been there. Did get to see Jason Castro Catcher for the Hooks, last years # 1 Draft Pick of the Astros. He impressed me with his defense behind the plate. Has good bat.
I saw Gaston at a NY-Penn League game against the Lowell Spinners in Lowell.
Every time he came to the plate the video board had a picture of Gaston from Beauty & The Beast displayed.
