This is about the time of year where you start to focus on the rookies and who is in line for the Rookie of the Year award. I figure that I would start with the pitchers. This year’s crop of pitchers are solid, they are going to be special pitchers in the future. The big 5 are:
Andrew Bailey – 5-3/2.01 with 18 saves.
Has been consistently good for the A’s and his cards remain fairly cheap. Autographs can be had for $3 – $6 on eBay
JA Happ - 9 – 2/2.66 with 92 Ks in 128 innings pitched.
Probably the most consistent pitcher in Philly right now. If a pitcher is going to win the NL award it should be Happ. His autographed cards on eBay are running about $10 – $15.
Tommy Hunter – 6-2/2.64 with 40 Ks in 64 innings.
He has been pretty damn good for the Rangers, he has only had 10 starts and will barely get to 100 innings, but has to be considered for AL rookie of the Year. His autographed cards on eBay are running $6 – $10 in auctions.
Randy Wells – 9-5/3.01 with 18 starts
No one expected much out of him, but he has put up a very nice season. Not as good as JA Happ, but has to be at least considered for ROY. His cards on eBay are running between $2 – $6, very nice for a Cubby.
Tommy Hanson – 8 – 2 / 3.02 with 62 Ks in in 79 innings.
He has a very live fastball and has been baffling in some situations, but other times he has been hit hard. I don’t think he is going to be named rookie of the year. There is no secret about Tommy his stuff on eBay is very pricey, nearing $25 – $30 for autographed cards.
Jeff Niemann – 10-5/3.71 with 82Ks in 131 innings.
Along with Bailey, I would put him at the top of the AL pitcher pile for ROY consideration. His autographs on eBay are dirt cheap. You can find a heck of a deal right now anywhere from $1.50 – $3.

Ricky Romero – 10-5/3.95 with 97 Ks in 125.
Another prime candidate for AL ROY consideration. Plays on a team going nowhere, yet he is going to be the number 2 guy on that staff for years (behind Halliday). He is going to be quite special. On eBay his cards are running $5 – $8 for autographs.
Rick Porcello – 10-7/4.21 with 62 Ks in 117 innings.
Rick was a favorite to win this award earlier this season, but as time has passed he still gives up too man hits per game. Still I feel he will be a front of the line starter, but remember he is still real young and he will only get better. His cards are ridiculously expensive on eBay, autographs are going for between $30 – $60.
Next week I will focus on the rookie hitters.

I want Porcello to win so bad. I faced him in High School so seeing him win would be amazing.
If anyone has that tommy hanson auto from topps chrome I will trade or purchase from them.
I have to agree that Happ has been outstanding this season, and probably deserves the award if it goes to a pitcher.
Go Niemann! Go Rice Owls!! Win Number 11 yesterday! More to come! Go Jeff!!! Rice Owls 2010!
