He has been hitting lights out for the Dodger’s farm system since 2008. A former 25th round draft pick out of Salisbury, NC, Jerry Sands doesn’t even have a pro card yet. That won’t last for long as he is now leading the minors in home runs. He flat out demolished high A pitching this year in Great Lakes, hitting as many home runs in the first half of the season as he hit all last year.
The Dodgers, sensing a possible September call up have moved him to AA Chattanooga, where he is also crushing the ball. So far in just 4 games, he is batting 0.467 with 3 homers and 4 RBIs. In high A he was hitting 0.333/18/46/14. He was definitely the steal of the 2008 draft and like I said, he doesn’t even have a rookie card yet.
His rise to AA is no fluke last year in time split between low and high A he hit a combined 0.315/19/58 and in 2008 he hit 0.205/10/33 in short season rookie ball. The truth is, Jerry is a hitter and I don’t envision him taking a long time to make it to the Dodgers. f he continues punishing the ball expect the September call up with a chance to make the team in Spring Training next year.
As I said he doesn’t have a pro card yet, but he has some All Star cards. The one pictured below can be had for $1 on eBay. There is also a signature card of his going for about $3 on the bay as well. He will without a doubt be a BUY when his card hits the market sometime next season. It’s always fun when an out of nowhere guy makes a splash, even if it is in the minors.
