First up, this beautiful checklist (vintage):

Now normally I don’t pick on vintage cards, but this one is a damn nice checklist card, how much is it going for?

Answer: $25,000 OBO

Hundreds, probably, a thousand, possibly, couple of thousand, probably not, 25,000, ummmm, no.  My theoretical value ~$400 – $500.

Next up, 1993 SP Derek Jeter rookie PSA 10:

First off this is a great card, so before anyone flames me I want to get that out there.  So how much is it going for?

Answer: $19,999

This one is not as grossly overpriced as the checklist, but in my opinion, even with the PSA 10, I’m going to say $5,000 at the most.  PSA 9s are not even getting $3,000 so I have a hard time seeing this one go for $20K.  How much would you pay?

Next up, a 1979 Wayne Gretzky Sportscaster PSA 10 card.

Now I am all for oddball stuff, but come on, no one is looking at this card and thinking, gotta have it.  How much is it going for?

Answer: $10,000

Back in the late 70s and early 80s, these were a big thing.  Some company in Italy marketed them Ronco style in the US and millions were sold.  Now the Gretzky one is probably rare, and for a Gretzky collector this might be worth some money but not $10K.  I’d say maybe in the $1,000 – 2,000 region in my mind.  What about you?

Finally let’s go to basketball, MJ and LeBron dual autograph #’d to 15.

OK two of the greatest players to ever play the game on one card, how much could it possibly go for?

Answer: $16,623.06

First off, not a 1/1 and for $10,000+ you want a 1/1, second we have to have a reality check, it’s two autographs MJ and LeBron that’s it.  So if I were to put a price on this I set it at $4500 – 5000.  How about you worth it or not?

PS – Still working on a Craigslist Idiot, picking has been thin.

Had a chance to look each of those auctions. The Jeter one stood out the most. The seller is out of New York, which to me adds at least one zero to the equation because of the hometown price they are going to charge. The Q/A’s tell the tale – they have a buyer that will go higher, send me a better offer. Straight cash homey. And 4479 viewers and no winners makes me wonder.
The checklist is an outstanding card, but I think its a touch overpriced. A lot of cards this place is selling are very high-priced, I think it might just be the initiative of the seller to get top dollar because of the overall products for sale.
The Gretzky, he tries the old hook and bait trick. Topps and O Pee Chee are worth a ton, so my knock-off thing should be right there. It isn’t as mass produced as the mainstream stuff! May be true, but market dictates, not numbers. Reminds me of a CI with his Nolan Ryan gold cards talking about print numbers to drive up value.
The MJ/LeBron card is pretty cool and has a selling point serial number. I think she is using it to command top dollar, and using the Cleveland agony bit as well (South Beach reference, before they start piling up titles), I wouldn’t pitch in 16K for this card. But it being on wood is pretty sweet.

I don’t really see how a checklist can be worth anything. I can see sets in the future becoming ridiculously expensive with this rating scheme cards have now. Will a set be worth nothing eventually unless all the cards are rated as 10′s?
