Let me first preface this by saying I hate Tiger Woods. I probably wouldn’t feel this way if he just honed up to his mistakes and was just frank about everything that happened. Instead, he made no contrition to fans and tried to play it like it never happened. I was thrilled when he lost his number one overall status and even happier when “Number 2″ became “Number 3″.
Tiger needs to admit that he needs help with his golf game, swallow his pride and get back with Hank Haney and become the golfer he once was. So I bet you are wondering why I say he is an insult to hockey, feast your eyes on this:

These are inserted into Upper Deck’s The Cup release. I’m sure if this pops up in your box you aren’t going to complain, but you will list it on eBay ASAP. I don’t understand the logic in this. The Cup is my single favorite release from Upper Deck year in and year out. It’s a fantastic product (on scale with Exquisite in my opinion) and offers real value for the money ($450 – 500 a box). Just check out any youtube box break and you will see what I mean.
To soil their best hockey release with this POS is flat out an insult to fans. Woods is without a doubt under contract with Upper Deck and probably has to sign a certain number of autographs a year for them. In my opinion this is an absolute waste of time, energy and card space. Upper Deck should be embarrassed to put this in their premiere hockey product. Hockey isn’t like any other sport, the fans generally aren’t golf fans. No instead have Tiger sign a bunch of golf balls, photos, 9-irons, golf bags, golf gloves, ect… and leave him out of your card products.
I know a lot of you are probably reading this and thinking, what’s the big deal? If you are, then you’re not a hockey fan, and you don’t understand how awesome Upper Deck’s The Cup release is year to year. It’s hands down the best hockey card on the market year after year. I hope Upper Deck doesn’t try this crap with other products, just release another golf set and rid us of Tiger Mojo in The Cup.

I’ve never understood the logic behind companies inserting athletes or celebrities not associated with the sport the product is supposed to be about, period.
Thankfully I didn’t get stuck with any figure skaters from last year’s Upper Deck hockey products. What a friggin joke that was.

What’s the big deal?
Signed – a lifelong hockey fan.
Tiger Woods??? this is hockey, right? LAME
Don’t forget they also put in Lebron James, Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson.
I agree. I’d be pretty mad if I spent that much on a hockey product and got a card for someone that plays golf not hockey.
Upper deck has ready stated that they would be putting all their spokesman in any product due to exclusive signings, this is the only way they will stay a float.
I don’t think too many people would be mad when they see the dollar signs associated with the card. The last one sold on ebay for $3250.
Wouldn’t bother me in the least.
I guess my point to the rant was, when I buy a box of anything, generally I’m not looking to sell. I think I have only sold one card in my life. Getting the Woods card instead of a hot rookie auto patch would suck. Just because I know I would sell it, only to buy more rookie auto patches from The Cup set.
I understand both sides of the argument. I stand slightly on the side of the ‘what’s the big deal?’ people, however. With the odds as they are to land a Tiger (or Jordan or LeBron, etc.) it would be shocking to get one, let alone be “mad” about it. From a lot of the box breaks I have seen for major cost product, a good majority of them end sour, you Chemgod, even have a category dedicated to dud box pulls (Don Knotts cut auto!) I’m thinking if I buy a mojo box and pull a Matt Carle sticker auto/patch as my major hit, I’m upset in relation to the $500 tag. While its semi-confusing to get a golfer in a frontline hockey product, you are not getting an Anthony Kim signed glove, you are getting Tiger. And people still go nuts for his stuff. Creep or golf hero. That’s the way I look at it.
If I open a $500 box of cards and pulled a $3300 card, I’m thrilled. I don’t care who the card is of, why, or how. PERIOD!
