I really like the look of the cards, as there’s almost no blank space to be found. Plus, I really could care less that ITG doesn’t have team logos.
The biggest thing I dislike would be the mentioned lack a license. I do like the design of the cards and the cuts look especially nice.
I like that fact that the cards manage to maintain a level of quality without the MLB logos.
No license means no logos and that means the cards look like they’re from a softball league. I don’t like that part. On the other hand, who doesn’t like Nolan Ryan?
I like it because of the unique design and the hits are all decent! (You won’t see these in the battle of crap!)
No logos. It sucks.
But you want the Nolan Ryan card
I really like the design of the cards, definitely nice and clean looking. I’m not a fan of the no license thing either, it just bothers me.
I’m in agreement that the lack of licensing is probably the biggest drawback… come on Nolan Ryan card… I have a nice little protective sleeve all ready for you…
I like the looks of the cards, but yeah, I collect a particular team, and no team logo = no team.
I like that fact that they are different than the run of the mill product you receive from Topps, etc. Different look to them which makes them stand out. I also like the fact that it’s Nolan Ryan. Who wouldn’t love a hit of the Express.
Nice lines. Unique look. No logo. Ah, OK cards, not overwhelming.
I like the list of Heroes jersey inserts, they really are/were top players unlike some sets that will call a marginal player a Superstar or Hero creating dissapointment to the person who gets a “hit” when they open their pack.
Here’s what I like and dislike about the cards:
I think most of the cards are too crowded. This may be just a personal preference not shared by many others, but I don’t like a whole lot of bells and whistles on a card. I realize that this design is more subtle than many, but I still think that the backgrounds are too loud in some cases and that the fonts are too large and overpowering (like on the cuts cards and the country of origin card)
Having said that I really like the country of origin subset. There are a few of these cards that I will try to obtain individually. However this has more due to the fact that I love country-based subsets than it has to do with the design of the card.
I think the autograph card (which seems to be more or less the “base” card) could be spaced out a bit more, with less background and text as well as a bigger player picture. I will say though that when I see a few of them together (as in badwax’s first break) they do kind of look nice and cohesive.
The Nolan Ryan jersey card is a great example of a good card, it’s a very simple, clean design and I think the swatch size (being a little bit bigger than most, but not jumbo) is excellent. Hopefully badwax can post a few more scans of some of the subsets, as I think if they have more designs like the Ryan card it would really improve the overall appeal of the product.
I also really like the fact that “heroes” are included. I suppose some might make the argument that heroes and prospects is a weird mix, but I feel like any time you have the chance to pull a legendary player from a product it only enhances the value.
Finally I agree with the licencing concern. I would rather see a player with his hat off than a player in a hat with no logo.
I’m not a fan of the name. It’s a bad pun, and it’s probably what I would name a set if I didn’t know anything about baseball. Don’t forget to check out their other sets – Basketball Shots, Football Throws, and Hockey Goals.
With that being said, I hope I win!
I like these patch cards! Logos or no logos, I like to see the players on the cards. Some patch cards don’t have the player on them. I guess I am old school and like seeing the player in action.
As a collector who collects only one team it just seems wrong not to have the team name or logo somewhere on the card. I probably woundnt collect these
i like the simplicity of the cards, nice clean look to it, but it doesn’t really seem like a true baseball card w/out logos and team
As I mentioned in the first post about the product, I like its intentions, but it looks a little cheap. Why have a product with Hall of Famers and Been There Before Guys if you can’t celebrate them in their totality? Makes me wonder where the uniform pieces came from if they don’t have a license for pro products. But I’m ignorant enough to buy it without doing any research!
Nolan Ryan is my baby’s daddy!
I like the look. I don’t however like the no licensing. I do like the signatures though – they actually make them stand out.
Like others have said, the lack of logos (ie license) is a big one. On the other hand, the checklist is solid.
I really like the design of the cards and the choice of players on the cards. However, like any non Topps baseball product the lack of licence will hurt it out. I hope Topps is taking note on the design
I like the mix of the old school players with the rookies. The design is nice too. I usually don’t buy much in the way of unlicensed stuff but I think this may change my buying habits.
I like the Nolan Ryan card simply because it’s A Nolan Ryan card. The check list looks good. The one thing I didn’t like quite as much is the Wil Myers card. I think he’s a great player and person but it appears to be a recycled photo from Topps/Bowman minus the license.
I dislike the sticker autograph, but I think they look pretty good for a sticker auto. I like the basic design and the cut autos look really cool. I like the concept of modern players having cut autos and think that Topps should include some in their products.
I have to say that the lack of the license does make it seem like “plain clothes” players. While the players can be visible on the card it just seems out of place not seeing a pro uniform on them. The layout design for the cards show that some effort was put into the design process of the cards. Not really sure how I feel about the low quality of names for auto’s but it’s a risk much like that of Bowman Chrome. I’d probably buy a box or two to try it out and go from there.
I like the layout of the cards, how even for auto and jersey cards (with a fairly large swatch window), there’s a full-sized photo of the player. Though it’s unlicensed, I don’t think it’s a detriment because for prospect cards, I don’t really care if it has logos or not. For the most part, they don’t have MLB cards yet. All that matters is the name. Are there any exclusive players with this set? What do the backs look like?
No license = no bueno. Nolie Jersey = Si bueno
I like the clean look of the auto cards. From what I can see on your scans, the autos are all on card (or if sticker, they are nicely placed). I tend to shy away from autos that don’t show when placed on a card with a dark background, but it looks like ITG does a good job with a white background and good space around the auto itself.
Another thing….why in the world are the prospect cuts? Really because it’s so hard to get a prospect to sign on the card? I like saving the cuts for those who have passed.
A couple of years ago I would have love this set but there are too many similar non- license products in years past like ones from Donruss, Tristar, Razor and maybe UD World of Sports to a point.
The designs are actually pretty good and your pulls aren’t bad but I don’t know maybe it is just me but I am not too excited about this product.
I admit I am a fan of Nolan Ryan and would love to add that card to my collection!!
Overall, I really like the product, two things bother me though, I do not like the prospect cut signatures, and the second is the lack of a license. I wish I could see a player in a modesto nuts or a aces jersey, besides that it is a top product and will purchase a few boxes via the internet.
I like the Heroes idea of 1 per box, adds ALOT of value…considering myself a pretty huge Fan(Yankees), and being 44 years old, if you didnt tell me who 3/4 of these guys were until you told me. $80-$90 bucks, Im not real high on it, sure LOVE the Ryan, what fan wouldnt, no license is a bummer, but no big deal. I for one, and for my collection, would head on over to The Bay of E(Greatest line ever), and spend $90 on hotpacks, and get myself as many hits, and definatly more name recognition as far as the pulls. But would LOVE to add the Ryan….keep up the good work man, and wheres the Craigslist idiot????
Pros: Pretty cool design that’s not too busy, all hits and pretty good ones at that is nice.
Cons: Lack of a license (maybe the design could have been tweaked to not accentuate this somehow), would have been better to gaurantee a legend in each pack/box. I think the Pros outway the cons though.
I love the lengths they go to, to obtain random articles of game used memorabilia!
My favorite part of these cards is some of the patches they have put in are HUGE and just rediculios!
I’m a big fan of the cut auto’s. Even though its mostly checks of 18 yr old kids, I still think they look neat, and at less then $100 for 5 hits of prospects, seems like a deal to me
The cards look good, I have to say that because they don’t have a logo does not make them a bad card. NOLAN RYAN JERSEY is a great pull on any card for me. I need to have this card !!!!!
They’re definitely good looking cards, but the license issue is a drag. Would have preferred blue ink.
I have to go with I like the majority of the cards, and while the lack of a license hurts a little, it’s not too bad. I’m not a big fan of cuts though. They have a place, but I’m not sure prospects are the way to go.
I like the fact that the Nolan Ryan card is black an white. I collect sports photos that are b&w so its something that I enjoy.
The product itself looks sweet, but design without logos is tough to fall in love with. Made the best out of no license, kudos. Grand Slam and Patch memorabilia inserts cards look good. No base cards so just a big draw for hits. . . .especially that Nolan Ryan.
Best thing: They look like cards that we (we as in the card collecting community) would create. They show the players, they get the point across, they are clean and unobtrusive.
Worst thing: Not because of anything ITG did but the worst thing is that no major sports league will give ITG a license. That’s a freakin’ travesty.
I have seen box breaks of this product where every card was a prospect, I think if you are going to name it Heroes and Prospects there should be an equal amount of heroes as there are prospects.
I like that there’s no crap to get in the way. Autos or game used mem but no base. The top loader idea I have mixed feelings about.
Decent looking cards even without logos. Have a good run of players. Not quite great probably not good but pretty good.
This is a great prospect product with a good selection of young players. I love the autos cut from checks. The only drab looking card out of the bunch is the Nolan Ryan card. The black and white makes Nolan look kind of generic, and the jersey blends into the card. Now, that’s not to say I wouldn’t love to own a swatch of Nolan’s sleeve.
I really appreciate how on all ITG products they clearly state where each piece of memorabilia is from as opposed to the uncertainty of the relics used by the other companies.
I like that In the Game has finally expanded its portfolio beyond hockey in what looks to be a significant way. I know they’ve done some releases featuring other sports, but this seems to be more focussed. They’ve done a great job with thier hockey products since being railroaded by the NHL, NHLPA, and Upper Deck, hopefully they continue down that path with baseball now too.
Contest may be over already but I will add my two cents anyway. Looking at a card like the Drabek auto I like the basic photography with the player busting out of the background. While it it tragic that their are no logos, I can overlook that as long as they have a solid player selection. being a huge fan of minor league baseball and following prospects I am delighted even before seeing cards of all time greats like Nolan Ryan. With or without logos I can confidently say I am as excited about this prospect as any other and can give it a solid 9 out of 10 ranking…
clean sharp looking cards. a great card for my collection!
