OK so maybe I did get rooked in acquiring an Ernie Banks autograph. However, you don’t have to, with so many affordable autographs out there, one of baseball’s best second basemen is finally affordable.
I didn’t even know these existed until yesterday. The card itself is from a Hillshire Farms promotion. These can be had on eBay for about $14 shipped. These are considered certified autographs. Yes there is no Cubs logo and there is a big Hillshire Farms logo on the card, but it’s an Ernie Banks autograph.

This one from Nabisco can be had for as little as $13 shipped. They manage to hide the logo with a classic shot of his swing, and the Nabisco logo is on the back. It’s doesn’t have foil on the card like the Hillshire Farms card has.
One of my favorite autographs of him comes from Fleer’s Greats of the Game, which can be had for around $25 shipped. Most of his autographs on eBay run from $20 – $40, and would be a nice addition to any collection.
I like this must have autograph post and I will be turning this into a series, so be on the lookout.
What do you think, Ernie Banks – must have autograph or not?

Even though I am not a Cubbies fan, “Mr. Cub” is always a welcome addition – yes, a must have!
Definitely a must have! Of course, he’s one of my three favorite players of all-time – so I might be slightly biased. Still, it’s Ernie Banks!
I don’t know if you can go wrong with the most iconic player of a storied franchise. Whether its Banks, Killebrew, Ripken, Brett, etc. having the sig of a HOF player is always nice, especially when he is one of the best. People raised a point a few weeks back when Feller died but his autos were everywhere – he is still a HOF player considered one of the greatest at his position of all time. You can’t go wrong, whether a fan of the player or team or just casual collector!
Great article, but you do realize that Banks was primarily a SS, right?
Whoops! Nice catch on that!
Both the Hillshire farms and Nabisco auto come w/ a COA that is fairly significant and official looking as well – anytime I have picked up one of these cards in an auction the COA was sent with it.
