Blaster Box - 2007 Topps Turkey Red / 2007 Bowman Heritage

I was at it again! I went into Target, this time armed with a $50 gift card gotten over the holidays and headed over to the kid toucher aisle (oops, I mean card aisle). Man don’t you just fee so bad when you are there, and kudos to Target and Walmart, for putting the cards next to the registers, I feel like I’m at the convenience store looking at porn trying to decide which magazine showed the most tail. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I swear the Target worker bees wander around me trying to see if I’m shoplifting. They make me feel like a degenerate. Which although I might be, it still isn’t nice. Anyhoo, I wanted to try some of these newly designed cards to see which one I will attempt to make a set off of. I got it down between Bowman Heritage:

and 2007 Topps Turkey Red:

I like the idea of portraits instead of photos. I have always been a fan of Dick Perez’s work. I think that as cards progress, people yearn for something different. If I wanted a picture of Jeter I would find it online, the portrait idea is great because you get to see something different with respect to cards. I know the industry has been doing this for a while but I really enjoy a vintage look to the cards. So in the end I ended up with 2 retail boxes, one of the Turkey Red and the other of Bowman Heritage. Over the next 2 weeks or so, I will limit myself to opening one pack a day (mixed in with the other box I’m working on 1952 pack chase from Tri-Star). I’m sure I won’t get anything, but just to see the card cooler in action should be lots of fun!

1st Walmart Blaster - World’s Greatest Card Chase (Pack Edition)

I went into Wally World today and decided to find the most packs for the buck. This was to ensure, truely bad packs of cards. I came across World’s Greatest Card Chase Multi-Sport Pack Edition. The bottom line 20 packs for $19.97. The gimick in this one is that there are several packs of very high value (vintage packs) which include:

1952 Topps High Series Baseball (Mantle as well as common cards worth $2000)

1957 Topps Football (Starr, Unitas, and Hornung RCs)

1971-1972 Topss Hockey (Dryden, LaFluer, Dione RCs)

1960 Topps Baseball (Mays, Mantle, Yaz (RC))

1961-1962 Topps Basketball (Robertson, Chamberlain (RC), West (RC))

Chances in landing one of these 1:9600 packs, they also have Throwback packs (basically anything older than 1985) for all 4 sports. Odds in landing one of these is 1:1500. I am almost giddy with how awsomely bad this is going to be.

The best part if you look at the box (seen below) is that they are making you believe that even if you do find the magic pack, it’s going to contain all those hot cards, which we all know is false. I decided to one this up one pack at a time, instead of just ripping open the box to ensure that I didn’t find a rare pack. Just to let you know if the incredibly off chance I do land one of these, it will be going on ebay (I have a house I’d like to pay for).

Here is the front of the box:

The first pack is . . . . a 99 cent pack of TriStar’s Hidden Treasures World’s Greatest Card Chase Hockey Edition. I just checked Ebay and I can get a box for $12.95.  See the next post for the opening!
